My Favorite Travel Hacks

Since we are in the middle of summer and travel has kicked into high gear, I thought I would share some of my favorite travel hacks.

1. Use credit cards to earn miles to fly This is the biggest hack of all travel. Having earned miles, as far as I remember, I have been able to fly for free (just had to pay taxes) to Europe, Las Vegas and New York! Years ago I also bought an iPad mini! I am not an expert but I can write more about this on a separate post and point to these cool resources for now: @maxpointsmiles @thepointsguy and https://thepointsguy.com/

2. Plug your phone charger behind a TV Helpful if you forget your wall plug at home or for charging up other devices. Sometimes hotels with newer facilities will also have USB inserts on lamps. You can also try your luck and ask the front desk of your hotel if they have an extra charger you can use.

3. Use shower caps to pack your shoes These keep the underside of your shoes off your clean clothes. Or you can just use a plain plastic bag (obviously they don't have to be plastic- reuse what you have at home). I'm curious, how do you personally pack your shoes?

4. Save Google Maps for offline use I have used this when traveling internationally, back when phone data wasn't as readily available as it is now. More recently I've used this hack when traveling to remote backpacking locations where there is no phone service! You can learn how to do this here.

5. Use packing cubes I received one of these for Christmas years ago and I still use it. It helps keep all your tops, underwear and socks compact in your luggage. This is the brand I use, but there are many options online.

Are you familiar with any of these hacks? Which one(s) is new to you?
